NC: Wake County School Board chairman contradicts himself on high-poverty schools
NC Health Access has posted a video showing the the dichotomy of two comments, one a statement and one a whisper caught by a microphone, Wake County School Board Chairman Ron Margiotta has made on where he stands on high-poverty, low performing schools in the district.
The Wake County School Board is in the process of overturning its diversity policy, which has created a political firestorm.
The first clip shows that on July 20, Margiotta emphatically denies that the board intends to create high-poverty, low performing schools in changing the county’s diversity standards. The second clip cuts to a board meeting on August 10, when a parent reminds Margiotta that he said publicly the board’s aim is to not form such high-poverty schools. Margiotta’s microphone catches him saying, “I never said that.”
