AFTAH uses Penn State rape scandal as opportunity for anti-gay speech

The child molestation scandal at Penn State University has raised questions about the problems of idolizing successful college athletic programs to the point where university students feel justified in a violent demonstration in defense of a coach fired for keeping quiet about the alleged crimes of his former assistant coach, charged with sexually abusing eight boys in 15 years.

In a Huffington Post editorial, former criminal prosecutor-turned-private trial attorney Linda Kenney Baden protests another main focus of the controversy, that being attention given on whether legendary coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier should have lost their jobs for covering up former coach Jerry Sandusky’s alleged child rape, and not on the victims of the acts and the safety of children.

But one organization has managed to turn the conversation away from both football and child molestation. For Peter LaBarbera, president of Naperville, Ill.-baesd Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) — a hate group according to the Southern Poverty Law Center — Sandusky’s actions are the result of being gay (an allegation solely pushed by AFTAH).

In a press release sent out three times on Thursday by the news-wire service the Christian Communication Network, LaBarbera conflates pedophilia with homosexuality and blames LGBT-rights advocates — rather than third parties in the know — for perpetuating sexual violence against children.

From LaBarbera:

Sandusky is married but obviously has a homosexuality (perversion) problem. Yet pro-”gay” liberals will deny any linkage between homosexuality and Sandusky’s rape/seduction of boys. In fact, after news of the Penn State scandal came to light, “gay” activists stressed that Sandusky is married and that most pedophile cases involve “straight, married men.” However, behavior is what matters – not a person’s marital status or self-described “sexual orientation.”

Last month anti-AFTAH activists threw a brick into the window of a Christian private school in Arlington Heights, Ill., in protest of the school hosting an AFTAH banquet honoring anti-gay activist Scott Lively. Ever since, LaBarbera has discussed the incident as an example of overwhelming hatred present in the LGBT community.

The AFTAH is right. Sandusky is an old fashioned pederast in a tradition of homosexual men raping pubescent boys, which goes back to ancient Greece. His marriage was a sham, he adopted all his kids from the boys organization he preyed on.
Anyone who has seen a gay parade or knows a few gay men knows homosexual men are perverts.
Recent studies show child sex abuse is the number one cause of the development of homosexuality.
If a proper investigation is done I’m sure we will find out it’s a much bigger number of kids raped and Sandusky probably leads a ring of gay men involved in raping boys.

    yeah, james, no.

you’re correct men in ancient greece did have relations with young teenage boys, but it doesn’t really say a whole lot about homosexuality that can’t be said for heterosexuality, because ancient greek men also took young teenage girls of the same age as their wives.

Adoption expert, Carrie Craft cites the Child Welfare Information Gateway (previously National Adoption Information Clearinghouse) as stating, “A child’s risk of being molested by his or her relatives’ heterosexual partner is over one hundred times greater than by someone who might be identifiable as being homosexual.” The study also found that of 269 cases of child sex abuse, only two offenders where found to be gay or lesbian. The American Psychological Association agrees, “Another myth about homosexuality is the mistaken belief that gay men have more of a tendency than heterosexual men to sexually molest children. There is no evidence to suggest that homosexuals molest children.”

Poppycock. I think you’ll find a child is no more at risk of being coerced into a sexual relationship by a homosexual individual than by a heterosexual relative who is in a position of power over the child.

It’s obvious nobody closely studies history because of how easily we forget that the ages of marriage and consent have varied wildly throughout the course of western history. Our judgement is colored by our own 20th century views and we view everything through the lens of an individual raised in a culture where the age of consent is 17-18 and that’s when people get married. People who lived centuries ago tended to not live very long. Even kings were lucky to make it to 50. Naturally, people married and had children as young as possible. Marriages were often arranged for political or social gain. Even peasants married in exchange for handsome dowries. This was the case throughout much of the middle ages, right through the renaissance, early modern period and beyond.

Now because we received our body of common law from our English heritage, we also inherited their laws on age of consent and marriage. Most of these remained relatively unchanged throughout colonial America and post revolution years. In fact, people seemed to care very little right up until the late 19th century when there was active campaigning to raise the ages of consent to 16 and beyond. But for a good chunk of American history it was perfectly legal in some states to marry someone as young as 12. Nowadays we’d call this pedophilia, but times change and so does our understanding of morality. What once was considered acceptable is now dirty.

We understand now that a child doesn’t have the faculties to really understand their situation and give informed consent to marriage or sexual acts with an older person. It is an unbalanced relationship where one person with fully formed sense of judgement takes advantage of another who does not, thus it is illegal.

I hate to tell everyone, but I wretched, horrific tragedy like the one at Penn State does not give every closeted antigay bigot a free pass.
