Santorum’s Tuesday primary victory closes with a win in Colorado caucuses

Rick Santorum won the Colorado Republican caucuses Tuesday, garnering roughly 40 percent support and defeating runner-up Mitt Romney by nearly 4,000 votes. As see-sawing caucus tallies trickled in after 11 p.m., it became clear Santorum would sweep the three primary contests held Tuesday and revive his flagging candidacy to become the latest “anti-Romney” in the race. In advance of the Colorado Republican caucuses tonight, the Northern Colorado Tea Party– perhaps the most influential of the state’s many tea party groups– isn’t backing away from its constitutional conservative mission. Colorado Democrats rail against Romney on eve of caucuses

While Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum campaigned in Colorado Monday, in advance of Tuesday’s caucuses, National Democratic Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., participated in conference calls with Colorado reporters, as she had on Friday. On both calls, she said that Romney “… has shown time and again on the campaign trail, he has no core values, he’ll say anything to get elected.” Signaling they think Romney will take the nomination, the Democrats fiercely criticized the former Massachusetts’ governor’s policy proposals while praising President Obama’s.  (more…)

Poll: Santorum could take two of three states today

Saying it has the potential to be “the most significant day in the Republican race yet,” Public Policy Polling Director Tom Jensen said late Monday night that former Pennsylvania Sen. Romney favored to win Colorado GOP caucuses

According to recent polling by Public Policy Polling, Mitt Romney looks primed for a big win in Colorado. He leads Republican voters in the state with 40% — compared with  26 % for Rick Santorum, 18% for Newt Gingrich, and 12% for Ron Paul. (more…)
