Bush official slams Trump's UK visit: 'This is not the way presidents act overseas'

Nicholas Burns, President George W. Bush's former NATO ambassador, said Trump lacks grace and dignity Americans deserve.

Trump's visit to the United Kingdom is simply an embarrassment, according to Nicholas Burns, who was U.S. NATO ambassador under President George W. Bush.

"We expect our president, any president on a ceremonial visit to represent all Americans with dignity, with grace and the president hasn't done that," Burns said Tuesday morning on MSNBC. "This is not the way that American presidents act overseas."

Burns added that "it's embarrassing to have the American president call out people in this tirade of criticizing opposition leaders in another allied country."

Burns was calling out Trump in part for his petulant attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Upon landing in London, Trump attacked Khan on Twitter, calling him a "stone-cold loser." He also said Khan "has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly 'nasty' to the visiting President of the United States."

In his Tuesday press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump defended and doubled-down on his attacks against Khan, saying Khan has done a poor job as mayor and is a "negative force."

Trump's visit to the U.K. is far from the first time Trump has been an embarrassment on the global stage. In July 2018, Trump humiliated himself and the country by siding with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin over U.S. intelligence agencies in denying Russian interference in the 2016 election.

In September 2018, leaders from around the world laughed at Trump as Trump addressed the United Nations and boasted about a list of questionable accomplishments.

Protestors in London have so little respect for Trump that they fly a giant Baby Trump balloon when he visits.

Yet rather than prove protesters wrong, Trump fired off in churlish insults and acted in a graceless, classless, and undignified manner when representing all Americans.
