President Obama is fighting AIDS

Just because Barack Obama is no longer president doesn’t mean he has stopped caring. Far from it. So in recognition of World AIDS Day, he recorded a video for Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show to help raise awareness about combatting AIDS around the globe.

“You can help us win this fight,” Obama said. “You can help us change lives and write a future full of progress and hope, so let’s all get to work.”

Indivisible Birmingham works to keep an alleged pedophile out of the Senate

Election Day in Alabama is just two weeks away. And on Dec. 12, the people of Alabama have a very clear choice to make about who will represent them in the Senate: Democrat Doug Jones, who successfully prosecuted KKK members for bombing a church, or the far-right disgraced former judge Roy Moore, who has been accused of molesting and harassing teenagers when he was in his 30s.

The Indivisible Birmingham folks are knocking on doors to get out the vote and make sure Alabama doesn’t send an alleged pedophile to the Senate.

Protesters rally across the country to stop the GOP tax scam

Republicans are charging ahead with their disastrous plan to hike taxes on the middle class so the rich can get tax cuts. This week, OFA held a day of action, and Americans all over the country gathered to tell their members of Congress to vote no on the Republican tax scam.

In Colorado, 200 people showed up to tell Sen. Cory Gardner to #KillTheBill:

In California, 320 people gathered to tell Rep. Darrell Issa to #KillTheBill:

In Pennsylvania, 50 people showed up to deliver the message to Sen. Pat Toomey:

ACTION ALERT: Join the People’s Filibuster to stop the GOP tax scam

You can do your part to help #KillTheBill too. Americans for Tax Fairness — a coalition of a number of progressive groups that has put together 400 events around the country in the last two months — is organizing a rally at Capitol Hill on Thursday and Friday to tell members of Congress to stop this scam now:

With the Senate set to vote on the Republican tax bill at the end of this week, we’re coming together on Capitol Hill to hold a people’s filibuster to make clear that we won’t stand for massive tax cuts for the rich at the expense of the rest of us.

We’re ready to speak out all night if we need to against the Republican plan to cut taxes for millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations. Join us in this fight to protect the middle class and working families.

If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and join the fight. And if you’re not in the neighborhood, use this handy tool to find an event near you.

Rep. Al Green: “The solution is impeachment”

Texas Democrat Al Green has been talking about introducing a bill in the House to impeach Donald Trump. It’s certainly not the worst idea; in fact, support among voters continues to grow as Trump’s presidency descends in darkness and failure.

So after Trump’s latest outbursts on Wednesday — essentially inciting violence against Muslims by promoting vicious anti-Muslim videos from a far-right extremist — the congressman took to the House floor to once again implore his colleagues to take necessary steps to remove Trump from office.

“When hate emanates from the highest office in the land,” he said, “when hate emanates from the presidency, the solution is impeachment.” Green added optimistically that “impeachment will be voted on before Christmas.”
