After news leaked that special counsel Robert Mueller has his first indictment in the Russia investigation, Trump's cronies went into full meltdown mode.
Bombshell news, first reported by CNN, that special counsel Robert Mueller has secured his first indictment in the Russia probe caused a panicked Twitter meltdown among Donald Trump's cronies.
Mueller has been investigating a wide range of issues related to shady activities by Trump and those in his orbit.
Trump himself is under investigation for obstruction of justice for firing former FBI Director Jim Comey, while his campaign is under investigation for possible collusion with Russia ahead of the 2016 election. Other targets of the investigation include disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, and likely many others that have not been leaked to the media.
When news of an indictment was published, the fringe elements that increasingly make up the bulk of the Republican Party went into immediate panic.
Trump's sycophant-in-chief, Sean Hannity, took to Twitter to spread bizarre conspiracy theories:
Guess;Mueller and Media working hand in hand. Media to be tipped off. Mueller was FBI Director Who knew of Russian crimes before Uranium one
— Sean Hannity (@seanhannity) October 28, 2017
(Uranium One is a debunked Republican fantasy that is being recycled to draw attention away from the increasingly bad news coming from the Mueller investigation.)
Fired Nazi-linked former White House lackey Sebastian Gorka immediately called for Mueller to be fired and investigated:
If this man's team executes warrants this weekend he should stripped of his authority by @realDonaldTrump.
Then HE should be investigated. https://t.co/uyCXnLdijO
— Sebastian Gorka DrG (@SebGorka) October 28, 2017
And former Trump campaign boss Corey Lewandowski went on Fox and Friends to rant about the non-existent "Clinton administration."
The far right has tried to smear Mueller in the past, and now it seems the attempt will go into overdrive, as they continue to use every underhanded trick in the book to try to discredit the investigation.
All this panic, and the indictment is still sealed.
Mueller was appointed in May of 2017, and has been methodically investigating what is turning out to be the most corrupt White House in generations.
Republicans initially welcomed Mueller with warm praise. Even Trump surrogate Newt Gingrich said, "Robert Mueller is superb choice to be special counsel. His reputation is impeccable for honesty and integrity."
But as the magnitude of the situation became more apparent, the right abandoned principles in order to protect the Dear Leader.
The noise of the fringe media has not impacted the Mueller probe up to this point, and there is no reason to think that it will moving forward.
As more indictments come down, expect more noise and increased attempts at distraction as the walls slowly close in on Donald Trump and his corrupt adminstration.
