Trump makes very bizarre statement about fire at Notre Dame Cathedral

Leading conspiracy theorist hints at sinister cause of Notre Dame fire.

Trump, who has a history of promoting conspiracy theories, made an odd remark about the burning of Notre Dame Cathedral during a roundtables on taxes Monday.

Reading from his notes, Trump took note of the tragedy and then made an odd aside, which seemed to suggest that there could be a different cause for the fire than official reports have indicated.

"It’s a terrible scene, they think it’s caused by, at this moment — they don’t know — but they think it was caused by renovation," Trump said. "And I hope that’s the reason. Renovation, you know, what’s that all about?”

Trump has in the past popularized false conspiracy theories, like claiming that President Obama was not born in the United States, that vaccines cause autism, and that global warming is a hoax from the Chinese government.

Officials do not yet know the the reason for the fire that could very well destroy the world-famous, centuries old cathedral. But for Trump to suggest that "renovation" is a questionable cause of a fire is a shockingly inappropriate statement for the president of the United States to make.
