Trump publicly pressured FBI director same day Paul Manafort's house was raided by agency

On the same day the FBI raided the home of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in conjunction with the ongoing Russia investigation, Donald Trump publicly asked for the acting director of the agency to be removed from his position. On July 26, FBI agents conducted a predawn raid at Manafort’s home in Alexandria, Virginia. They used a search warrant to obtain documents and other materials, as part of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. The Washington Post reports that “the documents are said to include notes Manafort took while attending a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in June 2016.”

The White House recently admitted that Donald Trump was involved in crafting the misleading press release put out by his son that did not disclose the full intent of his meeting with Russian operatives. The younger Trump later admitted that the meeting, which was also attended by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was about digging up dirt on Hillary Clinton during the election and Russian support for Trump’s candidacy.

On the same day as the Manafort raid, Trump tweeted the latest in his ongoing complaints about how the Russia investigation is being conducted. Specifically, Trump whined that Attorney General Jeff Sessions should “replace” Andrew McCabe, the acting director of the FBI, whom he described as a “Comey friend.”

Trump fired James Comey from the FBI after pressuring Comey to direct the Russia investigation away from the White House.

The raid of Manafort’s home shows that the investigation is closing in on the highest levels of Donald Trump’s inner circle. And Trump’s panicked tweets indicate that he is aware that the investigation is growing closer and closer to him and his family.
