UK leader Trump endorsed for prime minister refuses to meet with him

Boris Johnson declined Trump’s request for a meeting even though Trump endorsed him to be the U.K.’s next prime minister.

Trump’s ego is really taking a beating during his state visit to the U.K.

The Queen did not invite him to stay in Buckingham Palace, like many U.S. presidents before him; protesters have filled the streets of London to tell him he’s not welcome; and now Boris Johnson, the man Trump endorsed to be the U.K.’s next prime minister, declined Trump’s request for a meeting while Trump is on British soil, according to Politico.

And, to add insult to injury, it appears it was Johnson’s own people who leaked the news that Johnson snubbed Trump’s meeting request — ensuring yet another bad headline for the U.S. commander in chief.

“An official close to Johnson” told Politico that Johnson declined the meeting in order to prepare for a campaign event.

Trump, for his part, took an unprecedented step when he waded into another country’s politics to endorse Johnson to succeed outgoing U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May.

Trump told the Sun tabloid that Johnson — who wants to be the next head of the U.K.’s Conservative Party — “would be excellent” and would do a “very good job.”

“I like him,” Trump told the Sun, one of Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch’s many media properties. “I have always liked him. I don’t know that he is going to be chosen, but I think he is a very good guy, a very talented person.”

It’s unclear whether Trump’s endorsement will help or hurt Johnson.

However, both Trump and Johnson share a certain kinship: Both have been plagued by bad news surrounding extramarital affairs.

Trump paid off porn actresses to keep quiet during the 2016 election — a payment that earned him the dubious title of “Individual 1” in a criminal indictment. And Johnson has had numerous affairs and even fathered “love children” with the mistresses.

As the old saying goes, birds of a feather flock together.
