Donald Trump’s history of sexual predation and assault continues to get worse.
New video has surfaced from a corporate speech Trump gave in Sydney, Australia, in 2011. After telling a cheering audience, “Get even with people. If they screw you, screw them back 10 times as hard. I really believe that,” Trump then asks Jennifer Hawkins to join him on stage.
Hawkins was the 2004 Miss Universe winner, and was supposed to introduce Trump at this event, but did not due to a miscommunication with her management. Trump was indignant about it, saying he thought that she had “dissed” him, and took the opportunity to make a spectacle of Hawkins in front of thousands of people.
Trump first makes a sly crack about Hawkins’ intelligence, then follows that up with blatant sexual innuendo that he repeats until the audience starts to laugh.
Then, under the guise of comparing their height, he grabs Hawkins around the waist and leans in to kiss her. She twists around with her arm between them, and the kiss lands on her cheek.
This is the kind of behavior that Trump and others have tried to dismiss as “locker room talk” and just “boys will be boys.”
But one problem with this defense is that Trump appears to view the whole world as his own personal locker room, no matter where he is.
The Clinton campaign continues to call Trump out for this harmful and despicable attitude. As Clinton said at a rally in Iowa today,
This is a man who relishes making women feel terrible about themselves, in every possible way. Someone who thinks belittling and objectifying women makes him a bigger man. He goes after dignity and self-worth of women, and I don’t think there’s a woman anywhere who doesn’t know what that feels like.
So this is who Donald Trump is. This is how he speaks. This is how he thinks. This is what he does. Now, it’s time for all of us to stand up and say: This is not who we are. We are better than that. We are Americans.
