Sixteen-year-old Greta Thunberg sailed from Sweden to New York City to raise awareness of climate change and its effects.

International climate activist Greta Thunberg arrived in New York City on Wednesday after sailing across the Atlantic from Sweden to attend a conference at the United Nations.

"Thunberg, 16, and her crew were escorted into a lower Manhattan marina at about 4 p.m., concluding a two-week crossing from Plymouth, England. Hundreds of activists gathered on a Hudson River promenade to cheer her arrival," the Associated Press reported.

After she landed, Thunberg was asked if she had a message to deliver to Trump on climate change.

"My message for him is just: listen to the science," said Thunberg. "And he obviously doesn’t do that. So as I always say to this question: If no one has been able to convince him about the climate crisis, the urgency, then why should I be able to do that? So I am just going to now focus on spreading awareness and that people in general will start caring and realize how big the crisis is."

Trump has repeatedly attacked and denied climate science, promoting the debunked conspiracy theory that the scientific phenomenon is a "hoax" from the Chinese government.

He has repeatedly attempted to use his office to attack and undermine climate science by installing crackpots and pro-industry shills in key positions, while at the same time changing environmental policy to benefit polluters.

Trump also pulled the United States out of the Paris climate accords, despite widespread opposition to the action.

July 2019 was the hottest month in the history of planet Earth since record-keeping began.
